ACTING OR REACTING

May 7th – Capsule 7

TOPIC: ACTING OR REACTING

BIBLE TEXT: HE that is soon angry dealeth foolishly – Proverbs 14 vs. 17

The little girl was in a bad mood, so she took out her frustration on her younger brother. At first she just teased him, then she punched him, pulled his hair and finally kicked him in the shin. He could take it all until the kicking began. That hurt! So he went home crying to his mother who said to her daughter, “Mary, the devil made you pull your brother’s hair and kicked his shins”.
She thought it over for a moment, and then answered – “maybe the devil did make me, but kicking him was my own idea”.

Blaming the devil for everything can be a cop-out. All the evil in the world doesn’t necessarily come from him. A lot of it comes from the heart. Jesus said, “out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies”. (Matthew 15 vs. 19). What we do with our anger and frustrations is subject to all our will.

You can choose how you respond to stress, and to the behavior of others. You can either act or you react. When you react, you give control to other people and other things. But when you act according to the Word, you can change that person or circumstance, and end up feeling better about yourself.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, overshadow me with grace and Spirit of self-control, so, I can act and not to react to people, circumstances, etc.

Insight: You are going to get another chance to do it God’s way!

MARY, DID YOU KNOW?

Date - December 19th, 2021 Topic - MARY, DID YOU KNOW? Bible Text - But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.” - Luke 1:30-31 If God had asked the women of Israel who wanted to be the mother of the Messiah, every one of them would have raised her hand. If they had known what that privilege would actually involve—becoming pregnant before marriage, enduring terrible gossip, watching helplessly as their Son was mocked, ridiculed, tortured and crucified—those hands would have come down in a hurry. Mary certainly didn’t volunteer for the job. And she was stunned to discover she’d been selected for such an important role. She handled the extraordinary situation with grace and humility. She asked one question to help her understand God’s plan, then agreed to it immediately. God has a plan for each of us. Ours may not be as earth-shattering as Mary’s. Ou...

THINKING GOD’S WAY

JULY 9TH – CAPSULE 9  TOPIC: THINKING GOD’S WAY  BIBLE TEXT: EPHESIANS 4VS23 – Be renewed in the spirit of your mind. How you process information and arrive at conclusions must always be subject to the will of God. Listen, “……….be made new in the attitude of your minds”. When you first start thinking Gods way, it will feel strange to you. It may even feel like a “put-on”. But it’s not. It works like this: you have to  (a). Practice being nice until you automatically become nice.  (b). Practice going to church on Sunday, until going anywhere else seems strange to you.  (c). Practice giving to God until it be comes as natural to you as shopping at the mall.  (d). Practice speaking the truth until even the smallest lie tastes bad in your mouth.  (e). Practice speaking kindness until every cynical, negative word is purged from your vocabulary. Its all a matter of practice! But you ask, “ isn’t that hypocritical – feeling one way and speaking an...

I Know Him

Date - January 25th, 2022 Topic - I Know Him Bible Tex t - Then [Jesus] asked them, “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Matthew 16:15-16 How can people describe the ocean when they have not experienced it? How would they explain the waves that crash against the rocks or the shifting of the sand as the tide tugs at the shoreline? Are they able to put into words how the sand feels between their toes or describe the majesty of an endless blue horizon? Until they have taken a dip in the salty, white-frothed ocean, their descriptions would be limited. Perhaps that is why Jesus asked the disciples to define their faith in him on a personal level rather than rely on what others had to say about him. Jesus challenged them to base their definition of who he was on the reality of what they had seen, heard, and experienced about him.  Today, many stand in public platforms and attempt to define Jesus as a good man, a teach...
