JULY 2ND – CAPSULE 2
TOPIC: LEARNING TO PRAY
BIBLE TEXT: Matthew 6 vs 9 – After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father …….
When you say, “Our Father” you are acknowledging you belong to God's family, and that includes all the rights and privileges that go with it. Have you learnt what they are yet? One of the first words most babies said is, “daddy”. Knowing your father, helps you understand your own identity as a son or daughter. I need to know who my father is, and how He feels about me. If you have an abusive father, or one who wasn’t there when you needed him, it will take you sometime to believe, and act on the fact that God is your loving Heavenly Father, and you can come to Him anytime, day or night, and He will be there for you.
Prayer is just talking with the one you call ‘Father’. So, why don’t we spend more time talking to Him? One reason is, that while His love draws me – His Holiness intimidates me. When Isaiah saw the Lord, he cried, “Woe is me for I am undone” (Isaiah 6 vs 5). Have you ever felt that way? I have. Thank God David saw His compassion and said, “Like as a Father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him” (Psalm 103 vs 13).
All of us long to be understood. Its exhausting to be around people who audit your every move and demands that you qualify every statement. But, “Our Father” isn’t like that. We don’t have to labour to create what’s already there. He knows what your speech and silence suggest, and sometimes you can say it all in just two words – “Heavenly Father”.
Prayer: Help me and teach me how to pray.
Insight: Take a few moment and pray today.
