TOO MUCH TO LOSE

AUGUST 4th - CAPSULE 4

TOPIC: TOO MUCH TO LOSE

BIBLE TEXT: Mark 10 vs. 21 – 22 – “Then Jesus said unto him – take up the cross, and follow me. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

This man really wanted to follow Jesus, but he had too much to lose. He could have been another John or Mark, but instead that’s the last we ever heard about him, because he had become accustomed to a life of privilege and could not live with less.

Imagine him years later as an old man. His grandson climbs on his lap and says:
‘Grandpa, who was the greatest man you ever met?’
Without hesitating, he replies, “Jesus”
“What made Him so great?” The child asks
He replies, “Son, there’s never been anyone like Him. He healed the sick and even raised the dead. I saw Him do it!”

The little boy says “Grandpa, did HE ever talk to you?
Yes! HE replies.

The child asks “Well, what did HE say to you?
Looking at the child he says, “HE asked me to follow Him”

Earnestly looking up to the old man, he asks: Did you do it, Grandpa, did you follow Him?

Hmmmmn! Fighting back tears of regrets he sets the little boy down, and walks out into the garden of his luxurious home, with the words ringing in his ears “Did you do it, Grandpa, did you follow Him?”

Prayer: Lord, open my ears to hear you clearly so as to always know what to do in Jesus name. Lord give me the grace to follow you well withholding nothing.

Insight: When your life is over, will you be able to look back with joy and say, “I followed Jesus?” what else matters?

Capsule One - (WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY?)

May 1st – Capsule 1 TOPIC: WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY? BIBLE TEXT: Let us lay aside every weight and sin which easily beset us … Hebrews 12 vs. 1 You will start getting well when getting well is what matters most to you. Let your desperation drive you beyond concern about the opinions of others. As long as you are more conscious of people than you are of God, you will never get what you need. When Hannah, Samuel’s mother, prayed in the temple, there was so much locked inside her that when she began to pray and pour her heart out, Eli thought she was drunk (see 1 Samuel 1 vs. 13). God is raising up people who will confound us – radical Christians. Like those on the day of Pentecost, they were hungry for God. They will raise the roof to get to Jesus. They had carefully laid plans, and cry like blind Bartimaeus, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me” (Mark 10 vs. 47). When you are blind, all that matters is receiving your sight. When it looks like there’s no way out fo...

DO TI NOW

May 11th – Capsule 11 TOPIC : DO IT NOW BIBLE TEXT : Redeeming the time, because the days are evil – Ephesians 5 vs. 16 How many times have you said, “I will do it tomorrow?” sometimes you put somethings off because you don’t think you know enough, can’t do it well enough. The fact is, there is no magic age at which excellence emerges and quality suddenly surfaces. Thomas Jefferson was 33 when he drafted the Declaration of Independence. Charles Dickens was 24 when he began his Pickwick Papers, and 25 when he wrote Oliver Twist. Newton was 24 when he formulated The Law of Gravity. A second danger is to think that creativity and invention belong to the young. Not so! Emmanuel Kant wrote his finest philosophical work at age 74. Verdi at 80 produced crossing the Bar, and Michelangelo completed his greatest work at 87, Moses was 80 when he led God’s people out of Egypt and 120 when he got to Canaan. Seize the day! Redeem the new moments of your life. Because the time and age ...
