Are You Listening

Topic - Are You Listening?

Bible Text - Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.Matthew 25:34-36

This passage of Scripture always reminds us of what is important to Jesus and how he wants us to join him in his work on earth. It is so easy to be busy doing many things: taking care of our households, a business or ministry, or projects we’re interested in. But then it also becomes easy to miss the thing that’s most important: extending mercy to the “least of these,” caring for those who are hungry, poor, sick, or imprisoned. Our response to these needs doesn’t affect only our future, eternal destiny. It also affects our present prayer life.

Prayer men of the past emphasized that the Lord will not hear us if we aren’t listening to him and responding to what he asks of us. We can’t feed all the hungry people, help all the homeless, or visit every sick or incarcerated person. But we can listen to the voice of the One who loves all of them and doesn’t want them to perish without knowing his mercy and compassion through the hands of his followers. Ask what he would have you to do to reach out to them. And remember, he promises that when you come under his yoke, it will be easy, and his burden will be light because it is full of grace.

PRAYER
LORD, I want to join you in what you are doing to rescue those who are perishing, to feed those who are hungry and thirsty with your Bread of Life and Living Water.

• Forgive me when I don’t listen and instead pursue my own agenda.

• Help me to hear and obey when you call on me. Empower me to be your hands and your feet in the place where I live.

INSIGHT
If we will not listen to the poor when they cry unto us in their need, God will not listen unto us when we cry unto Him in our need.

Capsule One - (WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY?)

May 1st – Capsule 1 TOPIC: WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY? BIBLE TEXT: Let us lay aside every weight and sin which easily beset us … Hebrews 12 vs. 1 You will start getting well when getting well is what matters most to you. Let your desperation drive you beyond concern about the opinions of others. As long as you are more conscious of people than you are of God, you will never get what you need. When Hannah, Samuel’s mother, prayed in the temple, there was so much locked inside her that when she began to pray and pour her heart out, Eli thought she was drunk (see 1 Samuel 1 vs. 13). God is raising up people who will confound us – radical Christians. Like those on the day of Pentecost, they were hungry for God. They will raise the roof to get to Jesus. They had carefully laid plans, and cry like blind Bartimaeus, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me” (Mark 10 vs. 47). When you are blind, all that matters is receiving your sight. When it looks like there’s no way out fo...

DO TI NOW

May 11th – Capsule 11 TOPIC : DO IT NOW BIBLE TEXT : Redeeming the time, because the days are evil – Ephesians 5 vs. 16 How many times have you said, “I will do it tomorrow?” sometimes you put somethings off because you don’t think you know enough, can’t do it well enough. The fact is, there is no magic age at which excellence emerges and quality suddenly surfaces. Thomas Jefferson was 33 when he drafted the Declaration of Independence. Charles Dickens was 24 when he began his Pickwick Papers, and 25 when he wrote Oliver Twist. Newton was 24 when he formulated The Law of Gravity. A second danger is to think that creativity and invention belong to the young. Not so! Emmanuel Kant wrote his finest philosophical work at age 74. Verdi at 80 produced crossing the Bar, and Michelangelo completed his greatest work at 87, Moses was 80 when he led God’s people out of Egypt and 120 when he got to Canaan. Seize the day! Redeem the new moments of your life. Because the time and age ...
