Amazed at Jesus

TOPIC - Amazed at Jesus

BIBLE TEXT: Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day. There, too, the people were amazed at the things he said, because he spoke with authority. . . . Amazed, the people exclaimed, “What authority and power this man’s words possess! Even evil spirits obey him and flee at his command!” - Luke 4:31-32, 36
[Simon] was awestruck by the size of their catch, as were the others with him. - Luke 5:9

Throughout today’s passage in Luke, Jesus taught in the temple, delivered people from demons, and healed Simon’s mother-in-law and scores of others. Everywhere he went, those who were paying attention and heard him were filled with amazement and wonder at his authority and power. Later, when Jesus told Simon to take a different approach and cast the fishing net into deeper water, the attempt produced a catch so huge that it almost caused the boat to sink, and Simon was awestruck.

Although it is the same God who still does miracles and brings in a “catch” bigger than we can ask or think, who rules and reigns in our world today, many of us have lost our sense of awe and wonder and thus have ceased to truly worship him. If the weight of the burdens you’re carrying has snuffed out your sense of awe, picture yourself in the boat with Simon or at the bedside of his mother-in-law or as one of those healed by Jesus’ word. Ask the Holy Spirit today to open your eyes to see God’s marvelous works in your life and to fill you with wonder at what a great God he is.

PRAYER
LORD, restore my sense of wonder and awe as I look for you at every turn in my everyday, walkaround life. I want to be like those who heard you teach and were amazed at the things you said. Speak to my heart, and give me ears to hear. Open my spiritual eyes to see that you are working in the world around me. May I be filled with wonder and gratefulness at your great deeds.

INSIGHT
If for one whole day, quietly and determinedly, we were to give ourselves up to the ownership of Jesus and to obeying his orders, we should be amazed at its close to realize all he had packed into that one day.

DO TI NOW

May 11th – Capsule 11 TOPIC : DO IT NOW BIBLE TEXT : Redeeming the time, because the days are evil – Ephesians 5 vs. 16 How many times have you said, “I will do it tomorrow?” sometimes you put somethings off because you don’t think you know enough, can’t do it well enough. The fact is, there is no magic age at which excellence emerges and quality suddenly surfaces. Thomas Jefferson was 33 when he drafted the Declaration of Independence. Charles Dickens was 24 when he began his Pickwick Papers, and 25 when he wrote Oliver Twist. Newton was 24 when he formulated The Law of Gravity. A second danger is to think that creativity and invention belong to the young. Not so! Emmanuel Kant wrote his finest philosophical work at age 74. Verdi at 80 produced crossing the Bar, and Michelangelo completed his greatest work at 87, Moses was 80 when he led God’s people out of Egypt and 120 when he got to Canaan. Seize the day! Redeem the new moments of your life. Because the time and age ...

Capsule One - (WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY?)

May 1st – Capsule 1 TOPIC: WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY? BIBLE TEXT: Let us lay aside every weight and sin which easily beset us … Hebrews 12 vs. 1 You will start getting well when getting well is what matters most to you. Let your desperation drive you beyond concern about the opinions of others. As long as you are more conscious of people than you are of God, you will never get what you need. When Hannah, Samuel’s mother, prayed in the temple, there was so much locked inside her that when she began to pray and pour her heart out, Eli thought she was drunk (see 1 Samuel 1 vs. 13). God is raising up people who will confound us – radical Christians. Like those on the day of Pentecost, they were hungry for God. They will raise the roof to get to Jesus. They had carefully laid plans, and cry like blind Bartimaeus, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me” (Mark 10 vs. 47). When you are blind, all that matters is receiving your sight. When it looks like there’s no way out fo...

NOW

Date 📅 18th October, 2022 Topic NOW Living Scripture Hebrews 11:1,7 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [7] By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Now we begin to walk in the ways of faith and truth as our fathers in faith and mighty men of old and just as they witnessed the glory of God first hand so shall we if we act now. The perfect example is Noah and the ark, a man of grace and wisdom. The world was stained with disobedience, sinful ways and thick immoralities. And God decided to wipe the inhabitants of the earth with a great flood such as have never been before and even after. The heavens where ready to open the flood gates and the earth to let out her waters. When God spoke to Noah, he acted immediately and finished the ark on time and he eva...
