Godly Counsel

TOPIC - Godly Counsel

BIBLE TEXT - “This bread was hot from the ovens when we left. But now, as you can see, it is dry and moldy. These wineskins were new when we filled them, but now they are old and cracked. And our clothing and sandals are worn out from our long, hard trip.” So the Israelite leaders examined their bread, but they did not consult the Lord. Then Joshua went ahead and signed a peace treaty with them, and the leaders of Israel ratified their agreement with a binding oath. Three days later, the facts came out—these people of Gibeon lived nearby! - Joshua 9:12-16

On the surface the evidence seemed to match the travelers’ story. Their wineskins were tattered, and their clothing and sandals were worn. Their bread was moldy. They certainly looked as if they had traveled a great distance. Their story seemed so authentic that the Israelite leaders entered into an unbreakable covenant with them. But the leaders had forgotten to seek the counsel of God before they signed on the dotted line. They realized too late that the men were deceitful, but they had no choice but to honor the covenant.
It’s not always easy to keep a promise, but it’s especially difficult to honor a promise gained through the deceitful actions of another. When you make an important decision, you may have a tendency to weigh the facts as you see them. It’s important to assess the reputation of an individual or organization. It’s advisable to pore over figures on a balance sheet or to check references.

All of these things are wise, but don’t forget to seek the counsel of God, to ask for wisdom and discernment. Praying before you make important decisions can save you a great deal of trouble down the road.

PRAYER
WISE FATHER, you know what is best for me. You see what I cannot. Thank you for that check in my spirit that tells me to wait or not to do something at all. Help me to heed it. Thank you for the peace that floods my soul when I am taking a step in the right direction. I will turn to you first when making important decisions. Thank you for caring about the decisions in my life.

INSIGHT
Those who are in heavenly places seek God’s counsels in what to do.

DO TI NOW

May 11th – Capsule 11 TOPIC : DO IT NOW BIBLE TEXT : Redeeming the time, because the days are evil – Ephesians 5 vs. 16 How many times have you said, “I will do it tomorrow?” sometimes you put somethings off because you don’t think you know enough, can’t do it well enough. The fact is, there is no magic age at which excellence emerges and quality suddenly surfaces. Thomas Jefferson was 33 when he drafted the Declaration of Independence. Charles Dickens was 24 when he began his Pickwick Papers, and 25 when he wrote Oliver Twist. Newton was 24 when he formulated The Law of Gravity. A second danger is to think that creativity and invention belong to the young. Not so! Emmanuel Kant wrote his finest philosophical work at age 74. Verdi at 80 produced crossing the Bar, and Michelangelo completed his greatest work at 87, Moses was 80 when he led God’s people out of Egypt and 120 when he got to Canaan. Seize the day! Redeem the new moments of your life. Because the time and age ...

Capsule One - (WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY?)

May 1st – Capsule 1 TOPIC: WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY? BIBLE TEXT: Let us lay aside every weight and sin which easily beset us … Hebrews 12 vs. 1 You will start getting well when getting well is what matters most to you. Let your desperation drive you beyond concern about the opinions of others. As long as you are more conscious of people than you are of God, you will never get what you need. When Hannah, Samuel’s mother, prayed in the temple, there was so much locked inside her that when she began to pray and pour her heart out, Eli thought she was drunk (see 1 Samuel 1 vs. 13). God is raising up people who will confound us – radical Christians. Like those on the day of Pentecost, they were hungry for God. They will raise the roof to get to Jesus. They had carefully laid plans, and cry like blind Bartimaeus, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me” (Mark 10 vs. 47). When you are blind, all that matters is receiving your sight. When it looks like there’s no way out fo...

NOW

Date 📅 18th October, 2022 Topic NOW Living Scripture Hebrews 11:1,7 KJV Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. [7] By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. Now we begin to walk in the ways of faith and truth as our fathers in faith and mighty men of old and just as they witnessed the glory of God first hand so shall we if we act now. The perfect example is Noah and the ark, a man of grace and wisdom. The world was stained with disobedience, sinful ways and thick immoralities. And God decided to wipe the inhabitants of the earth with a great flood such as have never been before and even after. The heavens where ready to open the flood gates and the earth to let out her waters. When God spoke to Noah, he acted immediately and finished the ark on time and he eva...
