TOPIC: A DISCERNING HEART

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Kings 3 vs. 9 – 10 – Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart.

God guides us by revelation and by relationships. That means you need discernment about the people who come into your life. For example, when trouble hits, you’ll discover who your friends really are. You can’t lose a real friend, for the Word says – “A friend loveth at all times, and brother is born for adversity” – Proverbs 17 vs. 17. But a lot of us get hurt by discovering that some people weren’t true friends at all.

A man who was going through some difficulties, reached out to a pastor he thought would stand by him. The pastor said, “I’m sorry you are going through this and I will pray for you, but it will hurt me to associate with you at the moment. People might think I was being soft on sin”. How sad. But would you have acted any differently?

Discernment is not for judging people. It is for discerning their spirit. Have you ever been around someone with a critical spirit? A competitive spirit? A controlling spirit? Jesus once said to His disciples, “Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of” (Luke 9 vs. 55). Amazing! Even the disciples could not discern the spirit that was at work in their own rank. Can you?

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to discern first the spirit at work in me, then, others in Jesus name.

Insight: Today, when you ask for a discerning heart. He’ll give you one.

Heaven is a place to dream about, a place where our Heavenly Father dwells. It is not the skies we see or the galaxy of wide space we watch on the satellite and internet. The Bible records that Heaven is God's throne, a place where there are innumerable hosts of angels serving the LORD. There's no weakness in God's presence, for His glory and power radiates through the whole existence. Every biblical angel as described are very powerful and well coordinated. So is everyone born of God. Our Lord Jesus Christ came from Heaven and taught us what Heaven is like. And all the illustrations given in the four gospel of Christ were full of maturity and perfection.
