TOPIC - Like an Olive Tree

BIBLE TEXT - I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God. I trust in God’s unfailing love forever and ever. - Psalm 52:8

In Bible times the olive tree was considered the most valuable of trees. Throughout Scripture it symbolizes value, prominence, peace, and a promise of better times to come. The olive tree was also known as a tree that persevered, for it stood with great endurance under any adverse condition.

The man who is secure in God’s presence is a symbol of God’s power. When David compared himself with an olive tree, he was declaring his faith and trust in God as the One who enabled him to be strong, not only to survive but also to thrive and bear fruit no matter how his enemies pursued him. He voiced, through the symbolism of the olive tree, his determination to grow in God’s presence and live a life of faith, seeking only to fulfill the will of God and become his alone.

In whatever circumstances you may find yourself, the Holy Spirit dwelling within you can empower you to stand as a mighty, flourishing olive tree, full of the vitality that comes from living anchored in God’s unfailing love.

PRAYER
LORD, just like your servant David, I want not just to survive today but to thrive. Help me to display your splendor. Just as olive trees produce fruit, let my life produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Let others see the oil of joy, of healing, and of your very presence in my life, not only for my sake, but for the sake of those who so desperately need to see that you really do exist and dwell among us.

INSIGHT
Let Him do what He pleases with me: I desire only Him, and to be wholly devoted to Him.

Capsule One - (WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY?)

May 1st – Capsule 1 TOPIC: WHAT DO YOU WANT SO BADLY? BIBLE TEXT: Let us lay aside every weight and sin which easily beset us … Hebrews 12 vs. 1 You will start getting well when getting well is what matters most to you. Let your desperation drive you beyond concern about the opinions of others. As long as you are more conscious of people than you are of God, you will never get what you need. When Hannah, Samuel’s mother, prayed in the temple, there was so much locked inside her that when she began to pray and pour her heart out, Eli thought she was drunk (see 1 Samuel 1 vs. 13). God is raising up people who will confound us – radical Christians. Like those on the day of Pentecost, they were hungry for God. They will raise the roof to get to Jesus. They had carefully laid plans, and cry like blind Bartimaeus, “Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me” (Mark 10 vs. 47). When you are blind, all that matters is receiving your sight. When it looks like there’s no way out fo...

DO TI NOW

May 11th – Capsule 11 TOPIC : DO IT NOW BIBLE TEXT : Redeeming the time, because the days are evil – Ephesians 5 vs. 16 How many times have you said, “I will do it tomorrow?” sometimes you put somethings off because you don’t think you know enough, can’t do it well enough. The fact is, there is no magic age at which excellence emerges and quality suddenly surfaces. Thomas Jefferson was 33 when he drafted the Declaration of Independence. Charles Dickens was 24 when he began his Pickwick Papers, and 25 when he wrote Oliver Twist. Newton was 24 when he formulated The Law of Gravity. A second danger is to think that creativity and invention belong to the young. Not so! Emmanuel Kant wrote his finest philosophical work at age 74. Verdi at 80 produced crossing the Bar, and Michelangelo completed his greatest work at 87, Moses was 80 when he led God’s people out of Egypt and 120 when he got to Canaan. Seize the day! Redeem the new moments of your life. Because the time and age ...
